Apple cider vinegar is actually a combination of apples, yeast, and bacteria. Once fermented (it takes about a month), eventually turns into apple cider vinegar. The main component of apple cider vinegar is acetic acid. Acetic acid is what actually gives the apple cider vinegar that sour taste and pungent smell.

Besides the fact that apple cider vinegar has a sour taste and powerful smell, why is it beneficial for weight loss?

Let’s get right to it!

How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar for Weight Loss

1. Helps Control Blood Sugar Levels

Ever felt like you were just CRAVING sweets, sugars, and empty calorie type foods? This is most likely because you were either having a sugar spike or crash, which causes you to have the “craving” for foods, even after you just had a meal.

Apple Cider Vinegar helps balance your blood sugar, which makes it A LOT easier to stick to your diet so that you are only eating when you actually need to.

2. Acts as An Appetite Suppressor

In addition to it preventing sugar spikes and sugar crashes by keeping your blood sugar levels balanced (which helps keep cravings away), it prevents you from eating too much and increases feelings of satiety (feeling full) quicker. (source)

In one particular study, a small group of people consumed a high carbohydrate meal right after taking ACV had 55% lower blood sugar an hour after eating. In addition to this, they also ended up consuming 200-275 fewer calories as a result of using ACV. (source)

The general take from this, using ACV can DRASTICALLY lower food cravings and should be used to help suppress your appetite.

3. Prevents Fat Accumulation and Reduces Fat Storage

ACV has been shown to help stimulate your metabolism and help you burn fat faster. It is said that the acetic acid may suppress fat accumulation after consuming a diet high in fat.

One study that was conducted on 155 individuals for 12 weeks concluded that the ACV lowered BMI and BFR (Body Fat) while the placebo groups BMI and BFR Increased.(source)

Also, ACV has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity by as much as 34%. (source) Because insulin affects fat storage and is closely connected with affecting blood sugar levels, it is no surprise that studies suggest that ACV will reduce the body’s ability to store fat.

4. Detoxifies the Body and Improves Digestion

ACV helps flush out toxins from the body and this enables our bodies to utilize nutrients from food much more efficiently. Because of the high fiber content of ACV, it is able to absorb the toxins and help improve bowel movements. The end result, our bodies become much more efficient at metabolizing and digesting food.

It provides a long list of health benefits besides using apple cider vinegar for weight loss. Here are some of those benefits…

1. Lowers Blood Sugar and Insulin Levels to Help Fight Diabetes

This is especially beneficial for people who have type 2 diabetes.

Because people who are suffering from type 2 diabetes generally have high blood sugar levels, they are either suffering from the inability to produce insulin, or they have become insulin resistant. (source)

This doesn’t only apply to those suffering from type 2 diabetes, there are still a large number of people suffering from high blood sugar.

High blood sugar levels have been associated with early onset aging and other chronic diseases.

Bottom line, it is beneficial to keep your blood sugar levels at a normal healthy range. The best way to do this is by incorporating apple cider vinegar into your diet.

2. Can Kill Harmful Bacteria

ACV has been shown to help kill pathogens and bacteria (source)

Not only this, but you can use ACV for cleaning, disinfecting, treating nail fungus, warts, lice, and ear infections.

You can also use ACV to prevent bacteria like E.coli from growing on food and spoiling it. (source)

So, if you need a way to preserve your food, using ACV is a good natural way to do so.

3. Other Health Benefits:

  • Improves heart health
  • Treats dandruff
  • Helps with nausea
  • Improves skin
  • Prevents hair loss
  • May kill cancer cells
  • High in potassium, which is great for your heart and muscles
  • Helps maintain proper PH levels.
  • Can help treat kidney stones
  • May help with high blood pressure

While there are MANY health and weight loss benefits to ACV, there are a couple of things to be aware of when using it. Even though ACV is generally safe to consume, if you have too much of it, ACV may cause low potassium levels. The recommended daily dosage is 1-3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.

How should I consume ACV?

You should always dilute ACV in water. Due to its high acidity content, it may weaken tooth enamel if you consume it without diluting it. Here are a couple of different ways of taking it.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar Water

Probably the most common way and the easiest-

  • 1-2 TBLS of ACV
  • 8-10oz of water

2. Apple Cider Vinegar Tea

  • 12oz hot water
  • 2 TBLS lemon juice
  • 2 TBLS ACV
  • 1 TBLS raw honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Combine all the ingredients together in a mug, and enjoy!

3. Detox Drink Recipe (Dr. Axe)

  • 8oz hot water
  • 2 TBLS ACV
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 dash cayenne pepper
  • 2 TBLS lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey

Heat the water, and then combine all the ingredients together and enjoy!

Which Apple Cider Vinegar should I use?

While the are many options for ways of consuming ACV, the best way is consuming it in its natural form. The best one should be raw, unfiltered, and organic.

I recommend Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar
